Lavender Menace

“Lavender Menace” was Betty Friedan’s nickname for outspoken lesbians, a perceived threat to the white, middle class, second wave feminist movement. We asked our twitter & instagram followers consider how this definition relates to our contemporary moment, plagued by government attacks on bodily autonomy and the increase in policing of queer existence. We posed this prompt: “What is the relationship between the queer body and organizing for you? How do you practice queer resistance in the face of empire? police? mainstream feminist movements? the patriarchy? What does a Lavender Menace mean to you?”
